Q&A with author James Craig #killerfest15

Your name: James Craig

Tell us about yourself: I’m an ex journalist living in London.

Tell us about your latest book: I write a series about a London cop, Inspector John Carlyle. Sins of the Fathers is #8 in the series. It looks at 5 different father-daughter relationships and how far you can go to protect your child.

When did you start writing? This series? about 2007.

Where do you write? Wherever I can.

Which other authors do you admire? There are so many! William McIlvanney, Donna Leon, Camilleri, Mankell, Michael Dibdin, Philip Kerr, James Lee Burke, Lawrence Block, Robert Crais to name but a few.

Book you wished you’d written? Bonfire of the Vanities

Greatest fictional criminal: My mind’s gone blank! I’ll plug my own Dominic Silver, cop turned drug dealer turned art gallery owner. A very engaging guy, even though I say so myself. I wanted to give Dom his own series but that was a step too far for the publisher. Then again, most things are.

Greatest crime or criminal from the real world: Too many to contemplate

Greatest fictional detective: Bernie Gunther

What scares you? My failings

Are you ever disturbed by your own imagination? Not as long as I keep my mouth shut and stay away from email and social media

3 crime books you would recommend to EVERYONE

Do you listen to music when you write? I listen to 6 Music Jukebox on i-player
